Peter Russell (b. May 7, 1946) is a British author, physicist, and meditation teacher focusing on consciousness and spirituality.[1] He studied Theoretical Physics, Experimental Psychology, and Computer Science at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge. He has been both celebrated and criticized for his unification of science and spirituality. He is of the Non-dualism school of modern spirituality.
Part One introduces Transcendental Meditation, its origins; how it works -producing a state of profound rest, exactly opposite to the accumulation of stress and tension; and its implications for health, clarity of mind and creativity. The second part looks at the higher states of consciousness to which TM can lead. Part Three considers the implication for society as a whole.
A new translation with Alistair Shearer of selections from the nine principal Upanishads -- one of the cornerstones of Indian philosophy. Passed down by word of mouth for five thousand years, they teach of an absolute and unified field of intelligence that underlies and permeates all creation. This divine ground is our own nature, and to bring our lives into conscious harmony with it is the ultimate purpose of human existence. The Upanishads make the mind soar and the heart sing, and point the soul to freedom.
In 1982, he published The Global Brain.[2] Furthering the "Gaia hypothesis," he points to the fragile regulating system that exists between all living and non-living things with the aim of showing people that recognizing the interconnectedness of all things, helps us to become more conscious of our daily actions and ultimately discover a more peaceful way to live with ourselves, each other and the planet. Well ahead of the internet and information and communications technologies' boom, Russell observed "if Earth is a collective, self-regulating living organism, what then is the potential of humanity as seen through the eyes of the planet?"
"An extraordinary discussion among three of the very finest minds of our time, spirited in its exchange, compassionate in its embrace, brilliant in its clarion call to awaken conscience and consciousness" -- Ken Wilber
